Classic Comedies From Around the World
Throughout cinematic history, the comic film has been one of the most enjoyable to watch, but also the most challenging to create and produce. Making people laugh is a difficult art form. Satire, farce, parody, stereotyping, are just a few styles. The use of humor is used to make social and political statements, and avoid censorship. Under the guise of laughter, profound themes are found in today’s foreign films. Films we will watch and discuss in class include:
1. The Monk and the Gun (Bhutan)
2. The Crime is Mine (France)
3. A Fish Called Wanda (U.K.)
4. Divorce Italian Style (Italy)
5. Never on Sunday (Greece)
6. Woman on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Spain)
7. Wild Tales (Argentina)
8. Black Cat, White Cat (Serbia)
