Desmond McGowan

Desmond F. McGowan is the Founder and Managing Director of Oceanview Advisors,  LLC, a consulting firm which focuses on Finance, Operations, Compliance and  Information Technology. Oceanview Advisor’s current clients include real estate  developers, software developers and family investment offices. Past projects include  investment analysis, back office design, regulatory compliance reviews, compensation  plans, private equity fund raising and technology optimization. 

Previously, Desmond was the CFO for True North Management Group, a real estate  private equity manager, with approximately $1.2 billion of assets under management.  There he was responsible for financial reporting, investor reporting, treasury management  and information technology.  

Prior to joining True North, Desmond was the CFO of the Community Preservation  Corporation, the nation's largest affordable housing lender with multifamily residential  projects throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.  

Prior to joining the Community Preservation Corporation, Desmond was Managing  Director and Chief Operating Officer for DB Real Estate, Deutsche Bank’s real estate  private equity division. DB Real Estate invested in over a dozen countries and its $10  billion investment portfolio consisted of over 200 investments in virtually all types  commercial and residential real estate.  

Prior to Deutsche Bank, Desmond was a Director at Salomon Brothers where he was  Salomon Brothers' chief representative and one of the founding employees of Hannuri  Salomon Securities, a full service joint venture investment bank in South Korea. In  addition to his CFO responsibilities, Desmond oversaw the firm’s proprietary trading  activities and initiated and supervised its equity research efforts.  

Prior to founding Hannuri Salomon, Desmond was the Global Business Manager for  Salomon Brothers' Global Investment Banking Division, where he oversaw management  reporting, compensation and operations. Desmond’s initial role at Salomon Brothers was  head of Analytical Services for its Real Estate Group.  

Prior to joining Salomon Brothers, Desmond was an Economic Analyst at National  Economic Research Associates, an economic consulting firm.  

Desmond is an Adjunct Instructor at the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate and the  Fordham University Real Estate Institute. He teaches Master’s Degree and professional  education classes, in-person and on-line, in real estate finance, ethics, investment  decision making, risk management and affordable housing. Desmond is also designing a  course in maximizing real estate asset values which will be taught by local instructors in  Tokyo. Desmond received a B.A. from Yale College where he double-majored in  Economics and in American Studies. Desmond received a M.A. in Theology from the  Seminary of the Immaculate Conception. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a CIPM  Certificant and a Licensed Real Estate Broker in New York.
