NYU Course Feedback

Introduction

Student feedback and faculty reflection are central to the design and development of inclusive, rigorous, and innovative educational opportunities at the New York University School of Professional Studies (SPS). Each semester we ask students to share feedback on their courses through NYU Course Feedback (formerly Course Evaluation). This data is invaluable to SPS faculty as they reflect on their instructional practices and create transformative learning experiences.

All SPS graduate, undergraduate, and continuing education/non-credit (CENC) students provide feedback through the NYU Explorance Blue platform (previously NYU Albert). At SPS, NYU Course Feedback consists of thirteen (13) university-wide common questions and eight (8) school-specific questions. The university-wide common questions were developed by members of the Tenured/Tenure Track Faculty Senators Council (T-FSC), Continuing Contract Faculty Senators Council (C-FSC), and Student Senators Council (SSC). The school-specific questions (listed below) were developed by the SPS Assessment Committee, SPS Academic Directors and faculty members, and the Dean’s Leadership Team.

Policies & Procedures

The following policies and procedures apply to all course evaluations, in accordance with NYU policy and practice:

  • Student feedback is anonymous.
  • Faculty can access NYU Course Feedback results in NYU Explorance Blue or via the NYU Course Feedback card in NYU Home after the course has concluded and all final grades have been submitted to the NYU Registrar
  • Faculty can track student response rates in real-time via NYU Explorance Blue once the course feedback forms are live.
  • NYU Course Feedback results are not released for courses that have fewer than five (5) students enrolled or fewer than three (3) responses.
  • NYU Course Feedback results for the thirteen (13) university-wide common questions are published via the Albert Course Evaluation Results page within NYU Home (numeric data only).
  • Course feedback results from Summer 2023 to present are available via NYU Explorance Blue.
  • To access Course Evaluation results from Spring 2023 or earlier, contact your academic program leadership

NYU Course Feedback Period

The NYU Course Feedback period is determined by course start and end date.

  • Courses that are 15 weeks long have a 14-day period that begins two weeks before the official course end date.
  • Courses that are seven (7) weeks long have a 7-day period that begins one week before the official course end date.
  • Special Session courses and Continuing Education/Non-Credit (CENC) courses have variable NYU Course Feedback periods:
    • A course 1-3 days in length has a 1-day Course Feedback Period
    • A course 4-21 days in length has a 4-day Course Feedback Period
    • A course 22-63 days in length has a 7-day Course Feedback Period
    • A course greater than 63 days in length has a 14-day Course Feedback Period

The NYU Course Feedback platform becomes unavailable at midnight (EST) on the official course end date.

Recommendations and Guidelines

The SPS Faculty Council and the SPS Assessment Committee advise faculty to actively encourage students to participate in the NYU Course Feedback process. Remind students that their perspectives and recommendations are important to your work as an educator and for future students.

For faculty who are teaching synchronous, on-campus or online courses, the SPS Faculty Council and the SPS Assessment Committee recommend that faculty set aside 20 minutes of class time for NYU Course Feedback. During this time, faculty members should not be present in the physical or online classroom.

For faculty who are teaching asynchronous courses, post announcements on your course site and send reminder emails to your students when the NYU Course Feedback period begins. The communications should emphasize the importance of students’ feedback and include directions to complete NYU Course Feedback
