2024 Undergraduate Convocation Student Speaker Matt Kraus Exemplifies Dedication and Passion in Pursuit of NYU SPS Degree

Matt Kraus, the Undergraduate Convocation student speaker of 2024, is a testament to the power of dedication and passion. He has masterfully balanced his academic journey with a thriving career in real estate. Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Real Estate and Urban Sustainability from the NYU SPS Division of Applied Undergraduate Studies, his path is a shining example of commitment to both real estate and education.

While pursuing his degree part-time since 2015, he immersed himself in the industry, holding various roles at some of the Tri-State area's most prominent brokerages, including VP of strategic partnerships, manager of corporate accounts, and director of relocation and referral services, showcasing his versatility and leadership skills. He has recently worked as a real estate salesperson, founding Kraus Property Group in 2020, and demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit.

“At NYU SPS, I had the privilege of experiencing a blend of rigorous academic learning and real-world application,” he said. “From interactive class discussions to hands-on projects, every aspect of my education at NYU SPS was geared towards preparing me for the challenges and opportunities that awaited in the professional world.”

According to Kraus, two instructors and courses at the School—Professor Michael Netta and his Real Estate Development course, and Professor Mira Dewji and her Real Estate Law class—made lasting impressions on his career and education.

“I am deeply grateful to Professors Netta and  Dewji for their dedication, mentorship, and profound impact on my career and educational journey,” said Kraus.

During his time at NYU SPS, his involvement extended beyond the classroom. From 2017 to 2018, he was president of the Real Estate Club.

As he embarks on the next chapter of his journey, he remains committed to driving positive change in the real estate industry, focusing on sustainability and urban development. He aspires to leverage his diverse experiences and what he learned at NYU SPS to create impactful projects that enhance communities and promote sustainable growth while exploring avenues for investment and property ownership.

To his fellow 2024 graduates, Kraus imparts a few pieces of advice: Embrace uncertainty and change, never stop learning, stay true to yourself, and believe in yourself.
