NYU Media Talk
The NYU Media Talk series, which is sponsored by the MS in Publishing: Digital and Print Media, is a public forum for conversations with industry leaders. In February 2017, featured panelists included bestselling authors Lauren Oliver, Jodi Picoult, Jeffrey Toobin, and Colson Whitehead discussing "Challenging Topics, Challenging Times." The panel was moderated by Pamela Paul, editor of all book coverage at The New York Times.
In the June 2017 talk, “Influence and Influencers: The Changing Face of Content,” David Carey, president of Hearst Magazines; Clifford J. Levy, deputy managing editor at The New York Times; Janice Min, media strategist at Eldridge Industries; and Josh Tyrangiel, executive vice president of VICE News engaged in a lively conversation moderated by Sarah Ellison, special correspondent for Vanity Fair.
In 2016, "NextGen Editors: What's New, Different, and Daring," featured Jessica Grose, editor in chief, Lenny; Will Lee, digital editorial director, People.com and EW.com; Mark Lotto, cofounder and co-chief creative officer, Matter Studios; and Ben Smith, editor in chief, BuzzFeed. The conversation, moderated by The Huffington Post's senior media reporter, Michael Calderone, covered the changing role of the editor in today's digital landscape.
Also in 2016, "The Real Story: Four Bestselling Authors Take You Inside Their Literary Lives" included bestselling authors David Baldacci, Alice Hoffman, Jeff Kinney, and Erik Larson, and was moderated by Pamela Paul. In 2015, the panel was comprised of beloved authors Malcolm Gladwell, Lev Grossman, Elin Hilderbrand, and R. L. Stine.
