Carianne Carleo-Evangelist

M.S. in Tourism Management
Alumna, Class of 2009

When Carianne Carleo-Evangelist pursued her M.S. in Tourism Management at the NYU School of Professional Studies Jonathan M. Tisch Center for Hospitality and Tourism, she and her classmates didn’t just read about travel, they became tourists themselves. Their Tourism Product Development class took them to Gettysburg, PA, home of the historic American Civil War battlefield of Gettysburg, which draws large numbers of tourists each year who visit the sites surrounding the small community as well as the battlefield itself. At Gettysburg, the students worked with partner organizations to improve attendance and visitors’ overall experience. In addition, Carleo-Evangelist traveled to Prague with her Sports Tourism Development class at the time that the city was bidding for the 2016 Olympics. Here, she and her classmates examined the potential legacy effects that a winning bid would have on arenas, events, lodging, and travel.

"The program provided us with the opportunity to go out and to experience the world." says Carleo-Evangelist, 29. A recipient of the Center’s Ricelle "Bunny" Grossinger Hospitality Award, she now promotes New York City’s cultural attractions to tourists as the senior manager of arts and cultural programs at NYC & Company, Inc.—a job that grew out of an internship which was part of her hands-on course work.
